I love babies. I get very excited and full of ideas when I have a newborn shoot coming up. So much so that this time I even knitted! Yes the hat and the blanket are all my own work and really only took a couple of evenings. Although I must admit to having a couple of goes at the hat, the first attempt fitted me and was briefly worn by Angus, my fourteen year old, to prove how rubbish I was at estimating size.
I found the gorgeous wool at Yarn Therapy at Great Baddow just outside Chelmsford. They were very helpful although after I’d driven the wrong way up their road and parked where I shouldn’t have I think they thought I was a bit deranged. Especially as I then told them I was knitting a baby blanket and hat and no I didn’t have a pattern or any idea of needle size etc. They were very patient (it was also v close to closing on a Friday!) and I left with the tools and materials to create my masterpiece!

At about 10 days old I think she is the perfect model for my handiwork!

I really enjoyed making the pom pom (do you think I should get out more?!)

Mum also provided a prop for her little angel.

As nature made her.
They don’t stay this way forever, although it may feel that way in the depths of the night feeds, I am always honoured to record a new life – knitting is optional!
